We had a rainy Memorial Day so I decided to brighten the day with my pink daisy sweater and warm up with some hot chocolate (I’m not grown up enough yet to drink coffee). And let me tell you, it was a miracle I didn’t spill the hot chocolate all over my white pants. I have a bad track record when it comes to drinking hot chocolate. For some reason it always finds its way to my lap instead of my mouth. I even have a designated hot chocolate drinking sweatshirt. It’s light blue and has stains all over the front. Luckily, this outfit made it through the entire cup of hot chocolate stain free. A miracle I tell ya!
Yesterday I did a blog swap with Amy from Leopards and Lillies and I loved it too much not to post it on my blog too. So here it is 🙂

Around the corner from our house is this fancy private country club. Although I am basically a pro golfer- my sister and I were in junior golf as kids and picked up some skills. We were young so we only played two holes and it took us half the day but we eventually mastered the first two holes of golf. The other sixteen holes, we’re not so good at. Anyways as I was saying, I’m basically a pro golfer but since I don’t want to intimidate the other golfers with my amazing golf game, I don’t belong to the country club. But my rebel of a hubby decided this would be a good place for blog pictures. As some of you may know, I’m a total non-rule-breaker so I was nervous the whole time that security was going to catch me trespassing and cart me off to prison. Luckily, I’m super sneaky and nobody caught me taking pictures. And it’s a good thing because I don’t think I could make it in prison.
Mint chocolate chip: one of the best ice creams around (but really what ice cream isn’t great?). Mint chocolate chip: also a great outfit combo. Who knew ice cream was so fashionable?
I’ve always wondered what the door behind me in these pictures leads to. I’ve imaged it leading to an enchanted garden party filled with flowers and humming birds and tinker bell and the seven dwarfs sipping tea. Obviously that is the most logical thing that would be behind the door. And then finally the door was left unlocked. It had to be a sign that I was invited to attend the garden party. But when I opened the door, all I found was an empty storage room.

I still remember the day I learned that your heart is not actually shaped like a heart. I was in kindergarten (or maybe first grade) and the teacher asked the class what our heart is shaped like. I was always a shy kids so it was very unusual for me to volunteer to answer a question but this question was my time to shine. I raised my hand with full confidence thinking I’m going to nail this and become the smartest kid in class. When the teacher called on me, I answered with the drawing of a heart <3. BONK! I got the answer wrong. My teacher had fooled me with a trick question. Since then, I’ve always thought it was silly that the heart shape is called a heart when it’s not actually shaped like our heart. But I’ve come to realize that it’s a good thing the heart shape doesn’t actually look like our hearts because if it did, my heart button earrings wouldn’t be nearly as cute as they are.
P.S. I really enjoyed reading your favorite memories of your moms. They were all so sweet. The winner of the Blue Nile Earrings Giveaway is Rebecca Pruett! Email me (firstname.lastname@example.org) to claim your prize.
Of all the sweet things my sister and I did for our mom for Mother’s Day, I think the most memorable for her was the first time we made her breakfast in bed. We thought we made a delicious breakfast but years later, the truth came out…it was disgusting. You see, we were so young that the only thing we could make was oatmeal in the microwave. So first thing first, we cooked the oatmeal. Then knowing that presentation is the second most important part of a good meal, we needed a pretty tray to serve it on. So off to grandma and grandpas house we went (they live across the street from my parents) to get a serving tray. Since no Mother’s Day would be complete without flowers, we picked some flowers along the way. All the while, the oatmeal was sitting on the counter getting cold and chunky. Lastly, we made toast and placed her breakfast on the tray. We proudly served our mom breakfast in bed and watched her eat (or choke down, as she recalls it) every last bite. Apparently, oatmeal that has sat on the counter for an hour isn’t the tastiest. Needless to say, the next year my dad insisted on helping us cook her breakfast.
What is the best Mother’s Day present (besides cold chunky oatmeal)? Jewelry, of course! And now you have the chance to win the gorgeous Leaf Chandelier Earrings from Blue Nile. You can give them to your mom as a gift or keep them for yourself. Because lets face it, without us kids, moms wouldn’t even be moms so we deserve a little gift too, right? No? I think my logic makes perfect sense.

Those of you that have followed my blog for a while know that I am not a big fan of wearing dresses. They look adorable on other people but when I wear them (no matter how casual the dress might be), I feel so dressy; like I belong on the red carpet or at least out to a super duper fancy dinner. But when I put on this chevron shift dress, it was love. And every good shopper knows that if you put something on and instantly love it, you MUST keep it! I don’t know if it’s the fun color, the chevron print, or the shift dress style but I no longer felt like I looked like I was ready to hit the red carpet. More like I was ready to take a stroll downtown and go out to lunch. Which is exactly what I did.

Something about the turquoise/wooden bead necklace paired with the olive and cognac brown makes me feel like I belong on a safari ride. My mode of transportation for the day should be an elephant. I might get weird looks when I pull up to the grocery store on an elephant but then people see my outfit and it would all make sense. They would realize that an elephant was the only logical mode of transportation to match my outfit. Duh! So if anyone has an elephant I can borrow for the day, I would greatly appreciate it.
I have been searching for a black and white striped pencil skirt for-ev-er (picture me saying that like Squints from The Sandlot) and now the search is over! It’s not that I had a hard time finding the skirt I wanted, it’s that I had a hard time finding the skirt I wanted for less than $50. Each one I found was between $80-$120 and the bankers daughter in me (aka my dads voice) said “save your money”. I’m glad I listened that little voice in my head because I found this striped skirt for my store for only $30. You can bet your bottom dollar that there was no way I wasn’t keeping one for myself.
