You guys, I can’t even concentrate enough to write a decent blog post! Christmas is tomorrow! What?!?! Crazy! I’m so excited! I’ve been spending the past 4 days in my hometown with my parents, grandpa, sister, brother-in-law, and niece…oh and the hubs too, and we’ll be spending today and the next 3 days with all my aunt’s, uncle’s, and cousin, as well as getting to see the hubs’ family. There will be tons of dancing, hot tubing, and staying up way too late with my fam. We seriously have so much fun! Their dancing is the most entertaining and funniest thing ever. One of my aunts always ends up on the floor doing some sort of fried bacon looking dance and one of my uncles dance moves as been described as a frog in a blender. lol. So much fun! I’ll be taking a little break from the blog to enjoy time with my family. I’ll probably post once next week and then I’ll be back in full force in the New Year.

Happy Holidays!!!

Ok ok, you caught me! I bought myself some Christmas presents. Oops! Tell me I’m not the only one who has done this? I promise I’ve been a really good girl this year πŸ˜‰ Here’s the thing, the coat was on sale (I think it’s still on sale too) and it would have been a crime to pass up a good deal. And the scarf matched the coat perfectly so obviously I had to get it too. I really had no choice, people. I’ve already worn the coat (well, they call it a blazer but I think it’s more of a coat so that’s what I’m going to call it) a few time* and I’ve been trying it on with every item in my closet-yes, I have mini fashion shows in my closet whenever I get something new-and it’s made me realize how versatile a pastel coat is. Paired with winter pieces or darker colors, it’s perfect for winter, but pair it with light colors and it transitions easily into Spring. I think I’ve made a pretty good argument for why I had no choice but to buy the coat and scarf. I rest my case.

*see my other outfit with the pastel coat here

I got my fur scarf last year and hardly wore it because we had such a warm winter. There’s nothing worse than a 60-70 degree winter…except for maybe a winter full of blizzards. Half the country may have frozen last winter but I didn’t get to wear my fur scarf because it was too warm. I think we can all agree we suffered equally. (Haha! Jokes! I know you blizzard people had it worse.) Anyways, we’ve been getting lots of storms and rain this winter (or is it still technically Fall?) so I am taking full advantage by wearing my fur. And if you’re wondering where I wore this outfit to…I wore it to the DMV. I know, I know, I live a super glamorous life. lol.

P.S. Please keep those affected by the west coasts big storm last week in your thoughts and prayers. My preschool teacher’s house flooded twice in one week, causing a ton of damage to their home and personal belongings.

Ok, so I realize I’ve been posting a lot of plaid recently. Three out of my last four outfits consisted of plaid. But what can I say? I love it! Two years ago I had zero plaid in my closet and now, now I’ve got at least ten plaid items. The person not happy about my new found love for plaid…the hubs. He’s been wearing plaid (and when I say wearing, I mean it’s practically the only thing he wears) since before we started dating nearly ten years ago and apparently I’m “stealing his style”. lol. It doesn’t help my case that I actually have stolen a couple plaid shirts from him. The other day we left the house in matching plaid and didn’t even realize it until a stranger pointed it out to us. They say once you’ve been together for a long time, you start looking like each other and I guess that’s happening to us. Now before we leave the house together, we have to have a plaid check to make sure we don’t match. Haha!

One of my favorite things to do during the holidays is to watch the Christmas parade. At our old house, the fire department would dress up as Santa and drive the fire truck with the lights on through the neighborhood, passing out candy canes to the kids. And at the hubs old job, they’d decorate a huge float for the Parade of Lights and we’d ride on it. After the hubs switched companies, we moved to a new town and I was so excited to get to watch their Christmas parade. I got dressed up in my new red, plaid moto jacket and favorite red lipstick (because ’tis the season of red), and the hubs and I headed to the parade. But when we got there, we realized we got the day wrong. lol. Oops! Guess there’s always next year…

I love winter! Cozy scarves, cute layers, green tea, hot cocoa…I really love hot cocoa. But the one thing I conveniently forget each summer when I’m dreaming of cooler days, is just how cold it gets. If I’m outside for more than ten minutes, I’m practically frozen and I don’t even live in a place where it get’s super cold.  I know I could throw on a big coat but that would hide my cute outfit and obviously we can’t have that πŸ˜‰ So what’s a gal to do? Well folks, I’ve got the answer. Ok, actually Yahoo! Style has the answer. I found this article about how to stay warm without sacrificing your style and there’s only one word for it- genius! Seriously, how did I not think of this before? Adding hidden layers under you clothes? I’ll say it again genius! I’ve started doing this and I think the key is to make sure your hidden layers are thin and fit tightly against your body. You don’t want to be adding extra bulk to your look. You also want to make sure your hidden layers stay hidden. In the outfit above, I tucked in my undershirt to make sure it wouldn’t show. Thank you Yahoo! Style for keeping me stylish and warm! And also, thanks for all the awesome gift guides! If you haven’t checked out their gift guides, you must. I promise you they’ve got a gift guide for everything and everyone. My grandpa has a major sweet tooth and I’ve found a few new treats for him from the Sweet Tooth Gift Guide. And just in case you’re still looking for a little gift for me (*cough* mom), I’d like anything on the Tween Gift Guide. Yes, I know I’m technically not a tween anymore but…

SEQUIN BLAZER

I put my beauty tips from yesterday’s post to work to create this holiday party outfit. Red lips and nails say “holiday” and sequins say “let’s party”. Pair them together and viola, a holiday party outfit. I’m kind of totally and completely obsessed with this sequin blazer. I want to wear it every day throughout the holidays, on every date night for the rest of my life, and for any and every special occasion. Who knew a sequin blazer would be such a closet staple?! Speaking of closet staples, how do you like my new LBD? Aren’t the neckline and hem amazing?! They add a unique touch to a simple dress. I plan on wearing it with my gladiator sandals and panama hat in the summer. But I’m getting way ahead of myself with that plan. Back to holiday outfits…get yourself a sequin blazer. You can thank me later.

P.S. See how I styled this blazer for a more casual look here.

The glare from overcast days always gives me a headache so I keep sunglasses with me at all time…and Advil just in case I don’t get my sunglasses on in time and end up with a headache. I got these sunglasses from Polette and their prices are so affordable! I have a couple more expensive pairs of sunglasses but for the most part, I don’t like to spend a lot on sunglasses because I have a bad habit of breaking them. (Note to self: Do not sit on your glasses. They will break.) My new sunglasses are probably scared for their life now but I’d like to say that I haven’t broken a pair of sunglasses in over a year. Confession: I did break a pair last month but the glasses repair person was able to fix them so it’s like I never even broke them. Also, is it just me or is my red and black plaid shirt actually red and blue?

CROPPED SWEATER

Over the summer, I started to really love crop tops. But then it got cold so I put my crop tops away and turned to cropped sweaters. There’s only one problem with a cropped sweater…when it’s cold enough to wear a sweater, it’s too cold to be showing off a bare midriff. And this my friends, is when we thank the heavens above for layering tees.

In partnership with Zappos, I styled my new Paige jeans and Freebird boots for a fun holiday look because, well, who say’s ripped jeans and combat boots can’t get dressed up for the holidays too? All they need is a little dash of sparkle and they’re ready to party. To me, this is the perfect outfit to wear to a festive holiday party with friends.
Zappos has become my go-to for holiday shopping…actually, they’ve become my go-to for all types of shopping. I can’t believe that for the longest time I thought they only sold shoes. It wasn’t until last year that I realized they sell shoes, clothing, accessories and more! Please tell me I’m not the only one who has recently made this realization. I am so glad I discovered the world of Zappos beyond shoes because I am in love with the Paige jeans I got from Zappos. At Paige, they believe that every choice they’ve ever made — the big ones, the small ones, the right or the wrong — has led them to this moment. They believe that the best story you can make and share is the one of your own life, and they are passionate about designing pieces that reflect and celebrate it, so it was an obvious choice for me to celebrate the holidays in their jeans πŸ™‚ And the other obvious choice for the holidays? My Freebird boots, duh! I think I’ve mentioned before that Freebird by Steven boots are handcrafted from start to finish, using a traditional Goodyear construction, in which stacks of leather are hammered together and carefully stitched to create a virtually indestructible sole. This technique has been used to create the highest quality boots for centuries. Let me tell you, these boots really are an amazing quality. I put them to the test last weekend when we cut down our Christmas tree. I stomped through the mud and rain, and it didn’t ruin them at all.  They also kept my feet dry which I was super happy about. Dry feet = a happy Kacie πŸ™‚

P.S. Be sure to check out the Zappos Holiday Gift Guide
