I can’t believe that Christmas is next week and that soon it will be the New Year! I get to spend all next week with my family and I’m so super excited! I thought I’d share some pieces that would be great for NYE. Can you guess what I’ll be wearing? My sequin blazer, of course! I can’t get enough of it! If you’re still doing some last minute shopping, keep scrolling down for some gift ideas under $50 for her, him, and kids. I’m usually all done with my shopping and have all my gifts wrapped by now, but I’m slacking this year. I do my grandpa’s shopping for my mom (my mom does all his other shopping for him but I don’t want her to have to buy her own gift) and I still need to buy her two more things. Happy Last Minute Shopping my friends!

One of my favorite things to do during the holidays is to watch the Christmas parade. At our old house, the fire department would dress up as Santa and drive the fire truck with the lights on through the neighborhood, passing out candy canes to the kids. And at the hubs old job, they’d decorate a huge float for the Parade of Lights and we’d ride on it. After the hubs switched companies, we moved to a new town and I was so excited to get to watch their Christmas parade. I got dressed up in my new red, plaid moto jacket and favorite red lipstick (because ’tis the season of red), and the hubs and I headed to the parade. But when we got there, we realized we got the day wrong. lol. Oops! Guess there’s always next year…

I love winter! Cozy scarves, cute layers, green tea, hot cocoa…I really love hot cocoa. But the one thing I conveniently forget each summer when I’m dreaming of cooler days, is just how cold it gets. If I’m outside for more than ten minutes, I’m practically frozen and I don’t even live in a place where it get’s super cold.  I know I could throw on a big coat but that would hide my cute outfit and obviously we can’t have that 😉 So what’s a gal to do? Well folks, I’ve got the answer. Ok, actually Yahoo! Style has the answer. I found this article about how to stay warm without sacrificing your style and there’s only one word for it- genius! Seriously, how did I not think of this before? Adding hidden layers under you clothes? I’ll say it again genius! I’ve started doing this and I think the key is to make sure your hidden layers are thin and fit tightly against your body. You don’t want to be adding extra bulk to your look. You also want to make sure your hidden layers stay hidden. In the outfit above, I tucked in my undershirt to make sure it wouldn’t show. Thank you Yahoo! Style for keeping me stylish and warm! And also, thanks for all the awesome gift guides! If you haven’t checked out their gift guides, you must. I promise you they’ve got a gift guide for everything and everyone. My grandpa has a major sweet tooth and I’ve found a few new treats for him from the Sweet Tooth Gift Guide. And just in case you’re still looking for a little gift for me (*cough* mom), I’d like anything on the Tween Gift Guide. Yes, I know I’m technically not a tween anymore but…

SEQUIN BLAZER

I put my beauty tips from yesterday’s post to work to create this holiday party outfit. Red lips and nails say “holiday” and sequins say “let’s party”. Pair them together and viola, a holiday party outfit. I’m kind of totally and completely obsessed with this sequin blazer. I want to wear it every day throughout the holidays, on every date night for the rest of my life, and for any and every special occasion. Who knew a sequin blazer would be such a closet staple?! Speaking of closet staples, how do you like my new LBD? Aren’t the neckline and hem amazing?! They add a unique touch to a simple dress. I plan on wearing it with my gladiator sandals and panama hat in the summer. But I’m getting way ahead of myself with that plan. Back to holiday outfits…get yourself a sequin blazer. You can thank me later.

P.S. See how I styled this blazer for a more casual look here.

FOUR TIPS TO LOOK YOUR HOLIDAY BEST

By | beauty, Holiday Style | 22 Comments

I LOVE the holidays! Spending time with friends and family, gift giving (and receiving 😉 ), holiday parties, etc. Since I get to see people I haven’t seen in a while, I like to step up my beauty routine to help me look my holiday best. Here are my favorite tips for a mini holiday make-over:

1. Crest 3D White Luxe Supreme FlexFit Whitestrips
I used Crest Whitestrips before the holidays last year and the first thing my cousin said to me was “Wow! Your teeth look so white!” It was then that I decided this is a must-do every year before the holidays. While shopping at Target*, you can pick up Crest 3D White Luxe Supreme FlexFit Whitestrips as a little holiday beauty treat for yourself (it would also make a perfect stocking stuffer) because really, who ever leaves Target without a little something extra just for themselves? This is the first time I’ve used the Crest 3D White Luxe Supreme FlexFit Whitestrips and I gotta say, they’re amazing! It’s Crest’s best whitening system yet. It gives you professional results for a flawless holiday smile–right at home. You only have to leave them on for an hour, so I put them in while I do my hair and makeup. My favorite thing about these is that you can stretch them to make sure you whiten the teeth in the back that only show when you smile. Can you say hello beautiful white smile?
*Get $7 off your purchase of Crest 3D White Luxe Supreme FlexFit Whitestrips at Target.com: http://clvr.li/1vwTKSS

Tip: If you have sensitive teeth, use the whitening stripes every couple days or once a week (instead of once day like the package says) until you reach the desired whiteness.

2. Bold Lipstick
Now that you have the perfect white smile, it’s time to show it off! A bold red lip is not only festive but really enhances white teeth. It’s the perfect pop of holiday spirit to add to your makeup routine. I’m wearing Mac Retro Matte Lipstick in Ruby Woo. It’s universally flattering and lasts almost all day. I’m telling you, this stuff really stays put. I’ve never had any issues with it transferring onto my teeth either. Which is very important when you’re showing of your pearly whites 🙂

Tip: To prevent the lipstick from bleeding, line your lips with a red lip pencil first.

3. Metallic Eyeshadow
It’s always fun to add a little sparkle to your holiday look and what better way to do it than eyeshadow. You can wear a metallic eyeshadow on your lid, under your lower lashes, or use an angled brush to wear it as eyeliner. Play around with it! Wear silver if you have cool toned skin (like me) and gold if you have a warm skin tone.

Tip: Apply eyeshadow before your foundation. This way if any of the metallic eyeshadow flakes onto your skin during the application, you can clean it up when you apply your foundation.
4. Festive Mani
I’ll be honest, I am horrible at painting my nails! My motto is, they’ll look good after I shower. lol. If you are talented enough to paint little Santa’s on your nails or candy cane stripes, I say go for it! I’m super jealous of your abilities. But if you’re talentless in the nail painting department like me, don’t let that stop you from having festive a mani. Try painting your nails red and your ring fingers silver. It’s festive, special for the holidays, and super easy. Trust me, if I can do it, anybody over the age of five can do it. You could also paint some glitter nail polish over your red polish for a little extra sparkle. Have you noticed I like sparkle during the holidays? Sparkling white teeth, sparkly eyeshadow, and sparkly nails. The more sparkle the better!

Tip: If you get nail polish on your skin, wait for the polish to dry and then rinse it under warm water. You will easily be able to rub it off.

Happy Holidays my friends!

HOLIDAY FASHION

In partnership with Zappos, I styled my new Paige jeans and Freebird boots for a fun holiday look because, well, who say’s ripped jeans and combat boots can’t get dressed up for the holidays too? All they need is a little dash of sparkle and they’re ready to party. To me, this is the perfect outfit to wear to a festive holiday party with friends.
Zappos has become my go-to for holiday shopping…actually, they’ve become my go-to for all types of shopping. I can’t believe that for the longest time I thought they only sold shoes. It wasn’t until last year that I realized they sell shoes, clothing, accessories and more! Please tell me I’m not the only one who has recently made this realization. I am so glad I discovered the world of Zappos beyond shoes because I am in love with the Paige jeans I got from Zappos. At Paige, they believe that every choice they’ve ever made — the big ones, the small ones, the right or the wrong — has led them to this moment. They believe that the best story you can make and share is the one of your own life, and they are passionate about designing pieces that reflect and celebrate it, so it was an obvious choice for me to celebrate the holidays in their jeans 🙂 And the other obvious choice for the holidays? My Freebird boots, duh! I think I’ve mentioned before that Freebird by Steven boots are handcrafted from start to finish, using a traditional Goodyear construction, in which stacks of leather are hammered together and carefully stitched to create a virtually indestructible sole. This technique has been used to create the highest quality boots for centuries. Let me tell you, these boots really are an amazing quality. I put them to the test last weekend when we cut down our Christmas tree. I stomped through the mud and rain, and it didn’t ruin them at all.  They also kept my feet dry which I was super happy about. Dry feet = a happy Kacie 🙂

P.S. Be sure to check out the Zappos Holiday Gift Guide
