Coconut Oil | Shower Cap via T.J. Maxx: similar
Yes, I make out with my jar of coconut oil sometimes because that is how much I LOVE it! I use coconut oil for so many different DIY beauty items (I’ve never once cooked with it. Ha!), but my favorite beauty use for coconut oil is in my hair. I do this once a week and it really makes a huge difference.
To be honest, you can actually skip a couple of these steps to make it even easier, and you’ll still see amazing results. If you don’t feel like putting your hair in a shower cap or hot towel, you don’t have to. Sometimes, I’ll just throw it up in a bun and call it good. The heat just makes your hair cuticles open up so that the coconut oil can penetrate the hair faster. But if you don’t apply heat, your hair will still look amazing. I also skip the egg mixture most of the time because eggs absolutely disgust me. I don’t want to crack an egg, smell an egg, touch an egg, eat an egg, or have anything to do with an egg (unless its in a cookie 😉 ). Washing with an egg will help to cut through the oils and grease to make it easier to get all the coconut oil out of your hair. It also helps to strengthen/thicken your hair and add shine. But eggs make me gag so I usually just wash my hair like 4 times with regular shampoo to get all the oil out. Occasionally I get brave and do the egg mixture. lol.
Benefits of the COCONUT OIL HAIR MASK:
-moisturizes your hair and scalp
-helps get rid of dandruff
-contains vitamins for strong, healthy hair
-helps hair to grow
-gives you shiny hair
If you haven’t done a coconut oil hair mask before, you need to do it asap! Trust me, your hair will thank you for it 🙂

I just recently started using coconut oil as facial and body moisturizer. I could not live without it any more!
Red Reticule
I use it on my face from time to time too 🙂 I’ve done it on my body too but it takes a while to soak in so I’m usually to impatient with it. Haha!
I’ve been trying to use more coconut oil in my cooking, but have yet to try it for beauty purposes, though I’ve heard great things!
I need to try to cook with it more often…any good recipes you want to share with me? 🙂
I’ve done a coconut hair oil mask a few times, but I’ve never followed it with this egg shampoo. Last time it was still greasy after shampooing 3 times, so I definitely want to try the egg.

Yes, you should definitely try the egg shampoo then! I’ve been using the Dove Dry Oil Shampoo to wash my hair and it gets the coconut oil out for me…of course, I wash it about 4 times to makes sure it got it all. You could also try only putting in on your ends because it seems to be easier to get out if I don’t rub it into my scalp.
do you just mix an egg and a cup of water together? i’ve been wanting to try it.
This sounds amazing and OMG I LOVE photo #2 – you are TOO cute!
Lol. Thanks!
I love this idea! thanks for sharing, really love coconut oil!

I am always scared of doing these sorts of things but you are inspiring me! Apparently coconut can fix anything, how about a killer hangover? 🙂

Haha! I’ve never tried it on a hangover but coconut oil is a miracle worker so I would be surprised if it worked for hangovers too. lol.
I’m totally going to need to try this on the weeks when my hair is super dry!

Ok, true confessions…I have had a jar of coconut oil in my cabinet for months (does the stuff go bad?) and haven’t used it. Can’t remember why I bought it in the first place! Will try your hair mask. And yesterday came across a coffee grounds/coconut oil/ sugar/essential oil scrub to help minimize cellulite. I need to wear the stuff daily. Now I know what I am doing this weekend before we head out for vacay!
Girl, you need to start using your coconut oil! It’s amazing! I need to try that scrub recipe now! Is there anything coconut oil can’t do?!
OMG I was just thinking how I needed a natural remedy to help my hair get through this heat wave!
Thanks Ellis!

Is the coconut oil mask safe to use with dyed hair? (I’m sure it is…)
Yes, it is 🙂 I started dying my hair in October and still use coconut oil on it.
Wonderful to hear the confirmation! Thank you and thank you for the recipe! 🙂
With the egg and water shampoo wash how long do u leave it in your hair? How much water do you add to the egg mixture? And, do you shampoo/condition after the egg wash?
I use about half a cup of water 🙂
