ITEMS NEEDED

Salt Dough (4 cups flour, 1 cup salt, 1 3/4 warm water)

Beans or Gems

Mod Podge

Candle

These heart candle holders would make the perfect Valentine’s or Mother’s Day gift. I personally like the look of them best when made with beans, but you could also use colorful gems. We’ve done it both ways and both turn out great.

Step 1: Make your favorite salt dough recipe. I mix 4 cups flour, 1 cup salt, and 1 3/4-ish cups warm water (I add more if it feels too dry), and knead it for about 10 minutes.

Step 2: Roll the dough out and use cookie cutters to cut out heart shapes. (My 3 year old likes to help with this step).

Step 3: Press a candle into the middle of the dough to create an indent that the candle can sit in once the dough has dried.

Step 4: Have your child “decorate” the dough heart by pressing the beans or gems into the dough. You might want to press them in even further when your child is all done to help secure them in place.

Step 5: Set on a baking rack to air dry or a cookie sheet to place in the oven at 200 degrees for 2 hours.

Step 6: Once they’re completely dry, seal them with mod podge.

XO, Kacie
