Tutorial: Loose Curls for Short Hair

Tutorial: Loose Curls for Short Hair
I have finally created a step-by-step tutorial for how I curl my hair. I’ve gotten many comments, emails, and tweets requesting this so here it is! 🙂 This is very similar to how I use to curl my hair when it was long. The only difference being that when I had long hair, I skipped steps 5 and 6.
You can start* with clean or dirty hair. I only wash my hair once a week (I know, gross!) and these photos were taken on day six. But I do the exact same thing on days one through five.
*I have naturally curly hair so I blow dry my hair straight after I shower and then style my hair like this for the next 6 days.

Summer Beauty Hacks

Summer Beauty Hacks

While we all love the longer days of summer, the heat can be tough on our skin and hair. Frizzy hair, dry skin, bathing suit season…all words that can stress a gal out. We all strive for our skin to be perfect during the Summer, but that never really seems to naterialise how we would hope. However, those who do things like undergo cosmetic procedures seem to have great skin during the Summer, so you might want to consider that if you’re looking for the best skin you can possibly get. With these five summer beauty hacks, you might be able breeze through summer with ease and feel fabulous while doing so!

1. Brighten & Clear Your Skin with a Lemon Sugar Scrub
Lemon Sugar Face Scrub
Summer means less makeup and more time in the water. That also means showing more of your “real” skin. The lovely lemon and sexy sugar are here to help make your skin look its best! While the sugar is going to help soften the skin, the acids in the lemon are going to remove dead skin from your face (the very first time I did this, I could literally see it peel off the dead skin around my nose), and it also helps with acne, discoloration, and sun spots. The best part about this is that you probably already have everything you need at home.

Items needed:
Lemon/lemon juice, sugar, and a cotton pad (like what you use to remove nail polish).
I recommend using organic lemons and sugar.

Step 1:  Wet your face with warm water.
Step 2: Squeeze lemon juice onto a cotton pad, soaking it.
Step 3: Sprinkle about a teaspoon of sugar on the cotton pad.
Step 4: Scrub your face with the cotton pad.
Step 5: Rinse your face.

Your skin will be left feeling soft and looking younger and cleaner.

2. Add Shimmer Eyeshadow to Your Lotion for a Subtle Glow

DIY Shimmer Lotion

Who doesn’t want to glisten in the summer sun? An easy way to give yourself a subtle glow is to add shimmer eyeshadow to your lotion. Just crush up a shimmer eye shadow (in a pink or gold shade depending on your skin tone), mix it into your lotion, and rub it on your skin. Viola!

 3. Fight Frizz & Smooth Hair with Coconut Oil
Coconut Oil For Your Hair
Hydrate your hair and say goodbye to frizz with the help of coconut oil. (Bye Bye Frizz!) Once I week I message coconut oil in my hair, concentrating mainly on the ends. I leave it in for a few hours or overnight, and then wash my hair as normal. My hair is left feeling shiny, silky and smooth. No more frizz! Woohoo!

4. Get Smooth Legs with Veet

Smooth Legs with Veet
Veet’s Hair Remover Cream is your ticket to hassle free silky smooth legs. We all know that soft, silky, smooth legs are a must in the summer but shaving…quite possibly the worst thing about summer! I hate it! And with my dark hair and pale skin, I have to shave every. single. day. Well, not anymore thanks to the Veet In-Shower Hair Remover Cream (sensitive). I’ll admit, I was afraid of hair remover creams burning my skin due to a bad experience in middle school that is burned (haha! Pun intended) into my brain for life. But fear no more! It says to leave it on your skin for 5 minutes and no longer than 10 minutes. Well I break the rules (living on the wild side, I am) and leave it on for 15 minutes* and guess what, no burning sensation whatsoever. It leaves my legs feeling so smooth and moisturized. The best part?…I don’t have to shave for three days! If you want smooth skin this summer without the hassle of shaving, get this product!

*I think because my hair is so coarse, it needs to stay on longer in order to remove all the hair. For your first time using it, follow the instructions and check you legs (or wherever you’re removing hair from) every 5 minutes to find the best time for your skin.

5. Refresh with Lemon-Cucumber Water
Lemon-Cucumber Water

We all know the importance of drinking a lot of water, especially in the summer, but not only do lemons and cucumbers add a yummy flavor to your water, they do tons of other goods things too! Lemon-cucumber water is high in vitamin C and caffeic acid, which helps protect your skin from sun damage. The vitamin C also boosts collagen and elastin to help keep your skin looking young. And it has anti-inflammatories that prevent bloating. Nobody wants to look bloated in a bathing suit. Thank you lemon-cucumber water for your help with bathing suit season! Not to mention, lemons and cucumbers fight diseases. So start drinking your way to a healthier you with better skin. Cheers!

This is the first and only weekly shampoo I have tried and I LOVE IT! I only wash my hair once a week so when I do, I really need to get it clean. This shampoo leaves my coarse hair feeling clean, silky and shiny.
(I received this in my swag bag from Lucky FABB)
I don’t use a lot of product on my hair because I feel like it makes my hair dirty so I was very reluctant to buy this product. My cousin/hairdresser (Markie at Plum Crazy in Red Bluff) talked me into it and I am so glad she did. It gives my hair great texture without making it feel dirty. Love it!
3. Coconut Oil (organic unrefined cold-pressed):
What can’t coconut oil do? It’s a magical must-have! I massage it in my hair from root-to-tip once a week, focusing mainly on the tips. I leave it in for a couple hours before washing it with the weekly shampoo. It really helps to keep my hair healthy. I also use it as an eye makeup remover. It easily takes off my waterproof mascara.
When you only was your hair once a week, dry shampoo is your best friend. I usually don’t need to use it until the last two days but boy does it help to cover up the grease. I’ve tried other dry shampoos but they either left my hair feeling greasier than before or the white product wouldn’t blend into my dark hair. Batiste Dry Shampoo comes in different shades to match your hair so you never have to worry about your dry shampoo showing.
This bronzer will work on all skin types. It has amazing pigment so if you’re super pale like me, it won’t take much product to show up on your skin. It doesn’t have any shimmer to it making it perfect for contouring.
I have this balm stain in six different colors but “honey” is by far my favorite. It’s the perfect neutral shade! I’ve repurchased it twice and I think it will always be in my lipstick collection. It’s my go-to color! My bestie, Jordan (she’ll be starting a blog soon), also has this color and she loves it too!
Oh, the beauty blender. I use this everyday to blend in my under-eye concealer. I first tried the knockoff version but there really is no comparison. Knockoff versions are hard has a rock (not what you want when dealing with your under-eye skin) but the real deal Beauty Blender is so soft. It’s like a little cloud. (And make sure you get the beauty blender cleanser too. It will make your blender last longer and works great for your other makeup brushes + it has a very subtle but amazing smell)
The way this product glides on your face is uh-mazing! I’ve tried a few other drugstore foundations as well has some higher-end ones but this is my favorite. It has a medium coverage that’s buildable if you like full coverage. And it doesn’t feel heavy on your skin either. It’s very comparable to MAC. If you know your MAC color, you can use this chart to find your Revlon color. I used it and it worked perfectly for me. (My Revlon color is 150 BUFF)
I’m pretty sure this is the best highlighting concealer that exists. I tried every drugstore concealer trying to find something cheaper but nothing is as good as MAC. It brightens your face and isn’t cake-y at all. (I use the color: radiant rose).
Argan oil is not just for your hair, it does amazing things for your skin too! I’m sure their are other brands (like Josie Maran) that are great too but Aura Cacia is so much more affordable. Get it! Your skin will thank you!
This brush is so soft and applies makeup flawlessly! What more can be said about it?
I have very dry lips and have been on a search my whole life for a lip balm that will leave my lips feeling soft and moisturized. I’ve tried so many different products I can’t even count that high. Friends and family would always suggest products to try that they swore by but nothing worked for me. Nothing worked, that is, until I started using EOS. Since then, my lips haven’t been dry at all.
