My friend since I was in 1st grade (she was in 2nd) got married over the weekend and I was in the wedding (if you follow me on Snapchat @elementsofellis, you might have seen some of the wedding fun). Since I was headed to my hometown for the weekend, I decided to go a day early to spend time with my 88 year old grandpa (the one whose name I have engraved on my wishbone necklace from yesterday’s post). We had the best time watching movies, eating cookies, going to our favorite Chinese restaurant, and running errands together. Grandpa went with me to take blog pictures and he had me cracking up in-between shots because he Read More
I have become so obsessed with dainty necklaces. I love that they are so delicate by themselves but can also be layered together to make an effortless statement. I have several dainty necklaces so I’m always mixing and matching them. But if you ask me, you can’t just throw on all your necklaces and expect it to look good. I have some tips and tricks to created an effortless layered necklace look.
1. Vary your necklace lengths: Have at least one short (14-16 inches), one medium (18-20 inches), and one long (30-36 inches). With a long necklace you can also double it to make it look like you are wearing two necklaces. I was missing a long one in my collection but finally got the wishbone necklace from Merci Maman. This necklace comes in three different lengths so you can select which ever length you need…and guess what? If you keep scrolling down, you can enter the giveaway to win your own wishbone necklace!
As I’m putting this post together, I’m nodding off to sleep and it’s only 10:30pm. I’m pretty sure I’m secretly 90-years-old because I can’t stay up late and I need a lot of sleep. Anyways, on to my cute kimono. Don’t you just love kimonos?! It’s been way super hot here (like over 100 degrees) and all I want to wear is a simple tank + shorts. I love that kimonos add extra style to an outfit but they’re so loose fitting and lightweight that they don’t overheat you. Also, my favorite denim shorts Read More

I have a confession to make: I LOVE neutrals! Ok, you probably already knew that about me since the majority of my outfits consist of neutrals. In the wintertime, you can’t get me out of black, but as the weather warms up, I am all about my summer whites. White is just so crisp and fresh and makes you look more tan. And trust me, this pasty, pale girl needs all the help she can get when it comes to looking tan. I was in Target the other day, you know, to buy the essentials like dog food and shampoo, when I spotted a huge section of all white clothes. #TargetStyle has so many gorgeous white items right now! To make a long story short…I forgot to buy dog food, but I added a few new white pieces to my closet 🙂
I love rocking an all white outfit for a summer date night with my main squeeze. Whether we’re going for a stroll downtown for ice cream (my favorite kind of date night) or out to a fancy dinner (Cody’s favorite kind of date night because I’m not the greatest cook. Haha!), my trusty whites never fail me. I have two simple tips/tricks for Read More
Can you guess where I wore this outfit to? (If you follow me on Snapchat -@ElementsOfEllis- you might already know.) I wore it to Home Depot. Because obviously that’s the most appropriate place to wear 4 1/2 inch heels 😉 It wasn’t even like we were headed out to eat or something and had to stop by Home Depot real quick. Nope. Our one and only Read More
Normally when I get home, I get out of my normal clothes and put on my pj’s/comfy lounge clothes asap. But this outfit is sooooo comfy that I can lounge around the house in it all day…but if I need to run errands, I still look put together. This is definitely my go-to weekend outfit 🙂
Yesterday was mine and Cody’s 7 year wedding Read More
I think owning a dress like this means I need to take a Hawaiian vacation, wouldn’t you agree? I mean, if I’m going to be a responsible tropical print maxi dress owner, them I must take the dress somewhere tropical. It’s the right thing to do. Buuuutttt, since we have Read More
I’ve had my eye on this embroidered mini skirt for over a month now. I was hoping it’s be on sale during the Nordstrom sale last week but it wasn’t 🙁 What do you guys think? Should I get the skirt? Of course, if I get the skirt, I need the red flats too, right?
I don’t always wear bright colors but when I do, it’s usually red. Seriously guys, how gorgeous is this red blazer?! It’s such a pretty coral-red color, it’s light weight, and it’s just totally perfect for spring/summer. I wore this outfit to Target, and a little boy thought I was an employee because of my red blazer. Haha! You know you love a store when you start dressing like you work there.
When a new season rolls around, I get so excited to find new lipsticks and to start wearing my seasonal favorites. I have a few higher end lip products, but for the most part, I prefer to buy from the drugstore because they are so much more affordable (I’d rather spend my money on clothes. Who’s with me?! 😉 ). Below are my picks for the best drugstore lipsticks for spring and summer:
~Maybelline Color Sensational The Buffs: Nude Lust~
Being so fair skinned, I have a difficult time finding nude lipstick that doesn’t wash me out. I love that this shade has a gorgeous pinky-brown tint to it while still being nude. It looks so great with a smokey eye!
~NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream: Istanbul~
This is my first NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream and let me tell you, I am hooked! (Thanks Shanna for the recommendation!) This color is very close to my natural lip color and has been my go-to lately. I have really dry lips and sometimes matte colors can be even more drying on my lips but not this one! The color is going to be so perfect year-round!
~Maybelline Color Sensational Rebel Bloom: Power Peony~
I have been on the hunt for a pinky-purple shade for spring and hallelujah I have found it! This color screams spring and summer.
~Revlon Color Stay Just Bitten Balm Stain: Cherish~
I have five colors of the Revlon Color Stay Just Bitten Balm Stain collection (the color “honey” is my all time favorite), but each spring and summer, I find myself reaching for the color “cherish”. It’s a really pretty light pink color. This is the color I wish my lips were naturally.
~Maybelline Color Sensational Vivids: Shocking Coral~
I use the Revlon Color Stay Lip Liner in nude with all my lipstick colors. It matches my lips perfectly and blends well with all colors, from reds, to pink, to nudes, to bights, to pastels. Also, I have really really dry lips (it’s a curse I’ve struggled with my entire life). I use the Bliss Fabulips Sugar Lip Scrub and it really helps to take off the dead/dry skin. The EOS Read More
